CSPSERF AND ASERF COMBINED GRANT OPPORTUNITY
Funding up to $20,000
The CSPS Education and Research Foundation (CSPSERF) is excited to continue the combined grant with the The Aesthetic Surgery Education & Research Foundation (ASERF) to provide research funding to a CSPS member.
The California Society of Plastic Surgeons Research and Educational Fund is pleased to announce the CSPSERF Visiting Professor Terry Zimmerman, MD as the 2025-2026 Visiting Professor.
Dr. Zimmerman received his undergraduate bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of California San Diego and his medical degree from the University of Southern California. He completed a five-year general surgery residency with the East Bay program in Oakland, California, and a three-year residency in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the UC Davis Medical Center. He has been the medical director for the Zimmerman Center for Plastic Surgery in Folsom California since 1991.
Dr. Zimmerman is an active member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, as well as several California and Sacramento area organizations. He served as the President for The Greater Sacramento Society of Plastic Surgeons (one of the four Regional CA Plastic surgical Societies) for 6 years.
Dr. Zimmerman recently served as the President of the California Society of Plastic Surgeons and helped steer the Society through the very turbulent times of the Pandemic and Society financial crisis. Dr. Zimmerman is also committed to advocacy for the benefit of plastic surgery colleagues and the protection of patients and serves as the Chair of the CSPS Political Action Committee.

COMBINED CSPSERF-ASERF Research Grant (up to $20,000/12 months);
Pooja Yesantharao, and Dung Nguyen (Stanford) – named recipient of CSPSERF-ASERF combined Grant for their project on Fat Survival in Omental Flaps for Breast Reconstruction
-Award maximum $20,000
-Award date is July 1, 2025 through June 30, 2026.
-Awardees were announced at the annual CSPS meeting in May 2024, Omni La Costa, Carlsbad

CSPSERF-PSF combined grant
- PSF Study Section reviewed grants in March 2024
- Dr. Miles Pfaff, UC Irvine, an expert in Craniofacial surgery is the award recipient of $10,000 pilot grant for his research on Chondrocytes and Tissue Engineering.
- This is a $10,000 for 12 months award, July 2024-June 2025.
- Dr. Karly Kaplan, MD (Chief of Plastic Surgery, Kaiser Sacramento) has completed her term as VP. She visited the California residency programs where she was able to share her knowledge and experience in leading an outstanding group of plastic surgeons performing the full range of plastic surgery including microsurgery and breast reconstruction.
- Dr. Tim Marten (Private Practice, San Francisco) was selected as the new visiting professor, 2024-2025. Dr. Marten is well known for his work in aesthetic surgery, especially his techniques for facial rejuvenation. He will be visiting the training programs and the regional plastic surgery societies in California.

COMBINED CSPSERF-ASERF Research Grant
Pooja Yesantharao, and Dung Nguyen have been selected to receive the 2024 CSPSERF-ASERF combined Grant.
The award provides up to $20,000 and the recipients had submitted a budget for $10,000. The Award date is July 1, 2025 through June 30, 2026.
The formal announcement and presentation will take place at the CSPS Annual Meeting in May 2024, Omni La Costa, Carlsbad.

- Grants are in submission
- PSF Study Section reviews grants in March 2024
- Will identify winner in April 2024
- Will announce at the annual CSPS meeting in May 2024. This is a $10,000 for 12 months award, July 2024-June 2025. CSPSERF and PSF each contribute $5,000 each.
Visiting Professor Program
- July 2023 through June 2024: Karly Kaplan, MD – Kaiser Sacramento
- Dr. Kaplan currently visiting programs
- Application for next year’s Visiting Professor oOpens January 2024 for VP 2024-2025
- The new Visitng Professtion will be announced in April and all program directors will be able to include the CSPSERF VP in their yearly academic schedule.
