About Dr. Garry S. Brody (1932–2021)
Dr. Garry S. Brody was a pioneering plastic surgeon, researcher, educator, and humanitarian who helped shape the modern specialty. A professor emeritus at the Keck School of Medicine of USC, he was instrumental in establishing USC’s Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery program and developed and refined techniques in breast, burn, facial, and hand reconstruction. He served as president of CSPS, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, The Plastic Surgery Foundation, the American Association for Hand Surgery, and the Plastic Surgery Research Council. Dr. Brody also made an enduring contribution to patient safety through his groundbreaking research on breast implant-associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma (BIA-ALCL). Throughout his career and into retirement, he remained a devoted teacher and mentor to generations of plastic surgeons.
